nanopod: Hybrid Studio has been an independently run artistís studio since 2005.
Working with metal for over 30 years, Tosca was introduced to glass as an artistic medium in 2004.
Through developing bodies of work incorporating metal + glass Tosca has been awarded scholarships at The Corning Museum of Glass, Pilchuck Glass School and The Penland school of Crafts. Her work has been featured at SOFA New York, Culture Canada, Metalsmith Magazine, The Toronto Design Exchange, and the Memphis Metal Museum. A long-term guest artist instructor at the Ontario Science Centre, Tosca was awarded the Glass Art Association of Canada’s Project Grant for 2013. In 2014 she was awarded a Creation & Development grant from the Ontario Arts Council.

In many ways I find working with glass similar to working with metal; lost wax casting, soldering or ‘welding’ glass components together. I enjoy the immediacy of flame working, the many directions of lost wax casting (metal & glass), as well as experimenting with imagery on glass, fusing, slumping and working with vitreous enamels .
I continue to study and learn new techniques to incorporate into my work and instruction. I don’t believe in ‘keeping secrets’ and I strive to pass along as much information as I can to people that sign up for my courses. I am a strong believer in “..anything is possible..” and that one learns by doing. I feel strongly that the work created by beginning students with little or no previous experience that can be viewed on this website is a testimony of my ability to transfer the knowledge that I have gained. My classes are structured but not hindered by formality or pre-requisite abilities; I provide an environment in which individual creativity is nurtured and small ideas can flourish to great work in an exceptionally short period of time.
