Algal Bloom Wall Installation
Algal Bloom [small section] Glass wall installation shown during, Occam's Razor: Art, Science and Aesthetics | April 2- 20, 2014
Algal Bloom consists of 8 individual glass sculptures, each with their own stand-off mounting system in place. Enabling the pieces to be mounted in a group, or separately. The 2nd image shows the sculptural pieces with light passing through them- they are each fuse-cast from transparent glass, properly annealed then, cold worked to a soft matte finish.
I start off with glass powders, sifting and/or pouring the powder onto a protected kiln shelf. I then smooth the powder into a shape, creating thick and thin areas.
Sometimes I will poke through the powders, however, when the glass starts to fuse together the results tend to be more random. The installation shown covers an area of approximately 24"x18" standing about 2" from the wall.
This listing is for a small section of Algal Bloom, if you are interested the Algal Bloom installation in total can cover 40 feet by 20 feet.
